Introduction to Supported Decision-Making (SDM)

Supported Decision-Making (SDM)

This lecture introduces the Supported Decision-Making (SDM) model, which serves as an alternative to guardianship and enables people with disabilities and senior citizens with functional limitations to continue living independently in their communities and making their own decisions. These individuals are aided by a “decision supporter” who assists them with technical or logistical components in the process of making and implementing their decisions. The lecture includes an explanation of the process, how it is conducted, and the challenges and advantages compared to alternative models.
